The town of Hastings is located on the South coast and is a popular holiday destination for many.

The Norman Conquest

William the Conqueror is thought to have made his base at the Saxon Castle in Hastings on his arrival in England in. He replaced this old castle with a stone one, depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. On the 14th October 1066, just north of the town, the Battle of Hastings took place. The site is now part of the town of Battle.
